Previous post we discussed installing and using Pat Winlink with AGW Ports. However, this post will focus on using Linux built-in AX25 ports. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out the following posts to install and configure the required software:
Installing Software for Linux Packet Radio (1 of 4)
Configuring Direwolf (2 of 4)
Setting Up AXPorts (3 of 4)
Using Linux Packet Radio (4 of 4)
Pat Winlink on Linux Using AGW will explain how to download, install, and configure Pat.
You might wonder why we need to use AX25 kissattached ports when AGW already works. The reason is having all the tools at your disposal can be beneficial. Additionally, one method may be more suitable than the other in certain circumstances, so knowing both approaches is valuable.
First, let’s ensure that our axport name, as found in Setting Up AXPorts (3 of 4), matches the axport configuration in the Pat Configure file.
pat configure
Just like in Using Linux Packet Radio (4 of 4) we need to run DireWolf and start kissattach before launching Pat:
Then start Pat
pat http
Next, open your web browser and navigate to http://localhost:8080. Click on “Actions” and select “Connect.” In the
“Transport” option, choose “AX.25.”
“Target” field should contain your local Winlink Gateway callsign-ssid, either direct or via digipeater.
Once everything is set up, it should connect, and any waiting messages will be downloaded.
If everything worked well, and you found this guide helpful, consider sending me a Winlink!
